February 28, 2012 Look Up

February 28, 2012

Of course, in God's humor for the man day of skiing, there were ferocious winds and a full day of snow falling over the town.  I wouldn't have lasted ten minutes on the slopes today, but I did enjoy a tasty little lunch at a bakery and shopping for my family.  We would visit a shop feeling all warm and cozy, and then we would step out into the street and be accosted by whipping wind and icy flakes in our faces.  It was a fun day with friends but when we hit the road it was face-down trudging to the next stop, yelping at icy puddles and basically not blending in at all with the locals who I'm pretty sure didn't even realize that snow was falling by the bucketfuls all around them.  We were following our fearless leader for the day, Debbie, who has a need to see and touch every object for sale in any given town so we gathered our courage to maintain the focus of the Donner party.  Conquer and buy.  It was near the end of the day when we stepped out of a store on a street we had been on for hours when another friend said, "Oh my, look up.  There is a beautiful mountain right there!"  We had just been attempting to make it from store to store but all along there was this amazing mountain seemingly right over main street.  It really did take my breath away to look up and see the sun attempting to peek over the shoulder of this solitary mountain in the middle of town.  It had been there all along but we were so focused on just making it to the next store, we didn't stop and look up to see exactly what was around us.  Just a sweet little blessing, but I'm thankful to have seen and noticed it.  I think I'll try to remember when I return to the routine of home and the sometimes mundane days of everyday life, to stop and look up.  I'm up to 59 days of sweet glimpses of His gifts.  I pray I remember to ask for spiritual awareness to stop long enough in my day to see the blessings He has poured over me.
