I read volumes of literature-it's my sleep aid of choice. The latest book that I consumed was Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See. It's a novel based on the the lives of Chinese women during the time of foot-binding and when secret writings bound female friendships during a time of very isolated living. I hadn't really considered the content that much until I was lacing up my tennis shoes to go walk today. I have healthy feet that can carry me from place to place. Such a simple thing, right? Unless you don't have health and feet that can walk. I thought my gratitude moment ended there, but then I met a friend to walk and talk on our journey to healthier living. As the steps passed by and the words started to flow, my spirit began to lift. I hadn't even know I was in need of encouragement and refreshment. I knew that I hadn't seen precious Christian sister-friends over the holidays and I missed them but it's been awhile since I've truly given thanks for friends given to me by God. “The sweetness of a friend comes from his earnest counsel” Proverbs 27:9. It truly is a sweet gift to have friends that love the Lord, seek to honor Him in our encounters and love me as I am while encouraging me pursue our Savior.
